After the nerve-wrecking events of the last weeks, we took ten days of rest to recover — hence the radio silence on the blog. Swakopmund, a little town on the Atlantic coast of Namibia, with its cosy coffee shops and sunsets on the beach, seemed a perfect choice for us to settle down and enjoy.

“It’s the first time we see zebras!”
“Oh.”
Alex, our guide, seemed to understand and let us enjoy that magical moment.
That moment when we saw a herd of zebras in the distance, lit by the burning light of the sun setting across the savannah, and started walking towards them.

Ladina declined the offer, though, really, I have no idea how you could not be interested by such a thing.
“Want to try one of these worms? That for sure is a once in a lifetime experience. Well, except if you like them, I suppose”

Wildlife watching
One of the reasons why we chose to travel in this region of Africa was the animals which we could observe here in their natural habitat. We all know them quite well: the zebras, giraffes, rhinos, antelopes, elephants and, of course, the king of the savanna, the lion. We know them from our zoos in Europe, documentaries on TV or – as stupid as it may sound – from Disney’s “The Lion King.”
However, none of these approaches come close to what you see and feel there, out in the wilderness, where you can admire the animals as free living creatures.
