The Catlins

The Catlins are unlike anything I imagined New Zealand to be: steep cliffs, roaring waves, large beaches, tall waterfalls and incredible wildlife made our trip through this coastal area in the very south of the South Island a surprising experience. Until then, I thought NZ only had beautiful mountains and lots of sheep to boast about — well, the sheep part is true; however, this diversified country offers much more than snowy peaks. We spent a few days in the Catlins, enjoying the freedom of driving wherever the road led us, gazing at the beautiful gifts of natures, observing endemic animals and sleeping overnight at remote camping areas right next to eye-opening beaches.
